The sockeye are in, and so are the bears. Plenty of them working the lip of the falls and the riffles below, sows with cubs along the quieter edges of the river, and yes, the summer crowds are here too. Classic July at Brooks Falls. Flights have been going out on schedule most mornings.
The salmon numbers jumped this week and the bears came right behind them. Still fewer people than peak July, so platform time has been easy. A couple of foggy mornings pushed flights back an hour or two, then cleared, the usual King Salmon weather.
